Vibrating fluid-bed systems

Vibrating fluid-bed dryers are prefered for direct drying of bulk materials, because of its optimum heat exchange between bulk material and gaseous medium.

Advantages and benefits

The material is dried very carefully since the self-heating of the product is very low and the continuous feeding is done through the use of vibration technology.

Construction

The main feature of a vibration-fluidized bed dryer is the direct contact of the bulk material with the heat transfer medium. For this purpose, the device is equipped with a perforated feeding surface. Below that, there is the storage space for the heat transfer medium with the needed connections. In general, the conveyor device is equipped with a stationary or vibrating hood, which carries the connection for a suction device. The hood is of sufficient size so that the heat transfer can relax after flowing through the bulk material and the loss of fine particles is minimized. Possible drives are magnetic vibrators, unbalanced motors or exciter, depending primarily on the process and the size of the dryer.

A vibrating fluid-bed dryer consists of the following components:
  • trough
  • drive/s
  • elastical supports
  • perforated feeding bottom
  • hood, stationary or sympathetically
  • connections for product in-/outlet
  • connections for gaseous media in-/outlet

Selection

The dimensions of a vibrating fluid-bed dryer depends on the bulk material and its properties:

  • bulk material, such as bulk density, grain shape, size, size distinction
  • input moisture
  • output moisture, required
  • flow rate, required

Depending on these parameters, the determination of unit in size and design, selection of the gas distributor and the type of drive can be done.
